The Tainto

Is that a knife in your obi....?

The Tainto

Please note that new orders will ship after the New Year.

Inspired by the Japanese tanto, the Tainto is the smallest blade in our samurai trilogy and the ready sidekick to any lone ranger of the desolate wastes. Like its predecessor, the new Tainto with tsuba is ready to render service and support in the moment of most dire need. In medieval Japan, the tanto rarely saw action in situations where a katana or wakizashi could be employed, naturally, but it had its uses indoors and in situations where concealment was necessary. (The tanto was a traditional wedding gift to a Japanese woman from her husband, and was carried tucked away inside her obi.)

Let’s hope it never comes to killing a zombie with the Tainto (nor to the blade’s other traditional use – suicide. You *are* saving the last bullet for yourself, yes?), but there are other utilitarian missions for such a blade, as well as other potential foes. While we’ve always said that, “If you’re prepared for zombies, you’re prepared for anything,” lately we’ve added an addendum, which, in its contradictory truth, is suggestive of a Japanese koan: If you’re only prepared for zombies, you’re not prepared for anything. Zombies are a fiction, after all. Our blades are not.

The Tainto is full tang, single-edged, and comes sheathed.
